About FOI

FOI guide

The Campaign has published a users’ guide to the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations and rights to see personal data about you held by public authorities. The guide covers both the UK and Scottish legislation. For the latest news and developments about FOI see here.

History of the issue

You can read our briefings on the FOI Bill as it went through Parliament in 1999-2000, the Campaign’s ‘Secrets’ newspaper which we published between 1984 and 1993 and our analysis of Tony Blair’s 2010 (“I quake at the imbecility of it”) denouncement of FOI.

A brief history of freedom of information in the UK is available here.
